Bolivar cigars were introduced in 1901 as a pre-revolution Cuban cigar brand and registered as a trademark in 1927 by the Spanish industrialist Jose F. Rocha. The name comes from Simon Bolivar (1783-1830), the celebrated Venezuelan warrior who liberated all or part of what is today Venezuela, Columbia, Peru and Bolivia.
Bolivar is a Habanos Multi-Local cigar brand with a minor market share and there is also a non-Cuban cigar brand of the same name.
The Bolivar cigar range is known for cigars with full strength, using tobacco from the premium Vuelta Abajo (Pinar del Rio) region in Cuba.
