In 1848, a Spaniard Antonio Allones settled in Havana, Cuba and stepped into the Cuban tobacco business. Four decades later, in 1882, being already an important tobacconist, he introduced a very special Cuban cigar, elaborated with leaves from Vuelta Abajo, Pinar del Rio, which he distinguished with the name of El Rey del Mundo (translation: The King of the World).
Allones transferred his Company to Diaz and Brothers Society, in 1905, which became El Rey del Mundo Cigar Co. which became one of the most prestigious cigar factories of the Cuban tobacco industry. Nowadays the factory is called Romeo y Julieta.
El Rey del Mundo cigars still appear among the most well-known Habanos and they are coveted by experienced smokers.
The El Rey del Mundo cigars are light and smooth, with standard cigar flavor and aroma, and a well balanced strength.
El Rey del Mundo is a Habanos Local brand with a minor market share. There is also a non-Cuban cigar brand with the same name.
