Every leaf used for premium Cuban cigars is "Tabaco Negro Cubano" or native Cuban Black Tobacco, descended from the plants that Columbus first discovered on the Cuban island more than five hundred years ago. Two different forms of cultivation of the Cuban cigar plants produce the different types of leaf required.
1. Shade grown tobacco:
Sunlight and heat are filtered by covers, which make the leaves grow larger and finer. These covers create optimum conditions for growing a perfect wrapper leaf.
Only the largest and finest leaves are selected to make wrappers for Cuban cigars. The wrapper leaves are also the most expensive leaves to produce.

2. Sun grown tobacco
These Cuban tobacco plants are grown under the Cuban sun, which develops the typical variety of flavors that are blended into the plants to form the rich and complex taste of a Cuban cigar.
