Cigar Review

The Saint Luis Rey Coronas cigars are a complex smoke, but definitely needs ageing to reveal that complexity and all its potential. About five years is recommended. The medium Cuban tobacco taste is perfectly balanced with some earth, pepper or honey flavours among others.

These Cuban cigars used to exist in B25at packaging as well.

Does the name Saint Luis Rey refer to the "San Luis" region in Vuelta Abajo, Cuba, where some of the world's finest Cuban cigar tobacco is grown, and therefor got the name of the Saint Luis Rey? Or is this Cuban cigar's name based on a reference to a popular novel by Thornton Wilder(1927), The Bridge of San Luis Rey? In either case, the Saint Luis Rey cigar brand was created in 1938 and presents a Cuban cigar somewhat lighter side in strength.

Saint Luis Rey was registered in 1927 under the name of Zamora and Guerra. Despite its success, Saint Luis Rey disappeared and vanished up to the moment of its renaissance in 1940, under the impulse of a British cigar import company. However, it wasn't till 1980 when the Series A enters the international Cuban cigars market with great strength.

Nowadays, Saint Luis Rey cigars are manufactured in the same factory where the Romeo y Julieta cigars are made. It is located at 852 Belascoain Street in Havana, Cuba.

Leaves from Vuelta Abajo, Pinar del Rio and also the Semi Vuelta region are used in the cigars production. The cigarettes from Saint Luis Rey are characterized by a mid softness, in terms of aroma, taste and strength. Saint Luis Rey includes hand made and machine produced cigar vitolas. It is not a very demanded Cuban cigar brand, but it has established a minor market share.

Saint Luis Rey is a local cigar brand of the Habanos corporation. The Saint Luis Rey cigars are commercialized in Canada, Caribbean countries, Mexico, Africa, Middle East, Swiss, and the Far East. There is also a non Cuban cigar brand with the same name!
