Stripping Tobacco Leaves

The sorted filler and binder leaves are transferred to the Stripping House, where they undergo a moistening which makes the leaves pliable for stripping. The moisture will also be needed for a second fermentation after the stripping process.

The lower stem of the leaves is stripped out. At the same time they conduct the final classification into the three categories (ligero, seco and volado). The leaves that don't make the grade are rejected.

Finally the leaves are stacked in small piles and pressed between boards.
